My Autobiography 1868 -1948
by Efstathios Arditzoglou

Translated from the Greek by Simon Darragh

This is the remarkable story of my grandfather, an Ottoman Greek born in the heart of Anatolia towards the end of the 19th century. From humble beginnings, he became a successful dealer in textiles, only to lose everything following the abortive invasion of Asia Minor by the Greek army in 1922. With his family he made his escape to Western Europe, regaining a measure of prosperity and a completely new life. He ended his days in Athens, a wise and respected man.
It is not only the history, but the acute and very frank observations of his contemporaries and the detailed descriptions of his dealings, that bring the man and his times to life.
